Are You Ready for the Cold and Flu Season?

Are You Ready For The
Cold and Flu Season?

The peak of flu and cold season is actually coming soon. With summer drawing to a close, it's best to prepare now.

Consider the following tips to keep yourself and your loved ones healthy during this season. Remember that nothing can completely prevent you from catching a virus, but these tips can help to lessen your chances of coming into contact with it:

*Sanitize your work and living areas. The easiest places to spread germs include the workplace and the home. Spend a few minutes using a sanitizing wipe to clean off doorknobs, computer desks, keyboards, countertops, bathroom sinks, handles and toilets, as well as anywhere else that a variety of different people will touch in close proximity.

*Wash your hands on a regular basis. Your hands are the easiest way to transmit germs to other parts of your body. Washing your hands on a regular basis can help you to keep germs out of your nose, mouth, or eyes. Always wash for at least 30 seconds with warm, soapy water.

*Avoid touching if at all possible-Since you have to use your hands to open doors, turn on faucets and shake hands with others, you are likely to contact a flu or cold virus simply by coming in contact with a toilet handle. With this in mind, try your best to use a napkin or paper towel to cover a handle when it is necessary to open a door or turn on a faucet.

*Receive a vaccination-Although receiving the influenza vaccination cannot completely immunize you from the possibility of receiving the flu, it can definitely prevent the flu from being an unbearable experience.

*Dispose of tissue and toiletries-After using a paper towel or tissue, throw it away immediately and do not share with others. If you see a paper towel that has been used, don't pick it up, even if this means leaving it on the ground until you can cover your hands before picking it up.

Remember, very young children, those with suppressed immune systems, and the elderly are most susceptible to catching a bad case of the flu and cold, so keep these groups out of the cold weather and away from places where they are likely to encounter others with a virus.
