Is Fall & Summer the Worst Time to Sell?

I have been told that Fall and
Winter are the worst times to sell a home.
Is this true?

Don’t believe everything you hear. While the market’s in decline right now and real estate sales traditionally tend to slow down at the end of summer, there will still be plenty of home buying and selling going on this fall and winter.

There are many motivated buyers who, for one good reason or another, will be looking to buy in the fall and winter instead of in the spring and summer; many will be home sellers themselves who just sold their home.

Market conditions like sales volume and interest rates should not be your concern -- and, like the weather, there’s nothing you can do to control them anyway. Instead, focus on the three things you can control, which are the condition, price and marketing of your property.

If it’s in great condition, priced to sell and marketed right, no matter when you put it on the market, there will be buyers interested in it. But my best advice is, given this slower “buyer’s” market that we’re in, if you aren’t motivated and don’t have to sell your home, then don’t – stay where you are, work on improving its condition by adding value through updates and upgrades, which will make your home more appealing once you do decide it’s time to sell.
